About therapy with Mandy Semmens

  • Visit the About Page to learn about my credentials.

  • Yes.  In person therapy is ideal for most clients as it allows for a calm and secure environment, fewer distractions, and less potential for disruptions due to technical difficulties. Telehealth is available in situations where transportation or distance is an issue, when there is inclement weather, and if either you or myself are ill but still able to take part in a therapy session.

  • I want you to have the best, most successful, safe, and secure therapy experience possible.  If at any time you feel that you are not receiving this or if I believe that another provider may be better suited for you, we can discuss it together.

Please note: I am not able to provide crisis support due to my schedule.  If you are in need of ongoing crisis support, I can refer you to another therapist who can better support you.

  • Yes, I work with many clients who have a primary therapist.  Clients may come to me for specialized trauma therapy, EMDR, and intensives.

  • Yes, EMDR Intensives are available on weekend days.  Click here to learn more.

  • I accept the following insurances:

    • Blue Cross Blue Shield

    • Health Partners

    • Iowa Total Care

    • Medicare

    • VA Optum

    • WellPoint

These sessions will be billed to insurance and you are responsible for the amount that insurance may not cover such as the copay and deductible.  A credit card is required to be kept on file for copays, coinsurances, and late fees.  The balance will be charged to your credit card on a monthly basis.

If you have a different insurance than the ones listed above, you can pay out of pocket for therapy and submit the receipt to your insurance company for possible reimbursement with your out-of-network benefits.

    My fees are:

    • Initial Comprehensive Assessment: $200

    • 60 minute Therapy Sessions: $170

    • Late Arrival or No Show Fee: $100

These fees do not apply to EMDR Intensives. To learn about pricing for EMDR Intensives, please click here.

  • Traditional therapy sessions are either weekly, biweekly, and maintenance therapy sessions are once per month.  EMDR Intensives are available and frequency of sessions vary based on the package you select: (1) 3 hour sessions that occur weekly or (2) 3 Day Intensive with 3 hour sessions each day.

  • While I understand that we all deal with sickness, have car trouble, or childcare issues, I have a strict policy around cancellations, late arrivals, and no shows.

Your time and my time are important.  If you arrive late or do not attend your appointment, you will be charged a fee of $100.  Insurance will not cover this cost.

A No-Show Fee will be charged if:

    1. You arrive more than 10 minutes late to your appointment

    2. You do not show up for your appointment (even if you call me after the appointment)

    3. You cancel a 1 hour appointment in less than 24 hours

If there is a pattern of missed appointments, late arrivals, or late cancellation of appointments, we will discuss if it is the right time for therapy.

  • While I wish I could be there in the event of a crisis, the reality is that I may not always be available due to the nature of my schedule.

If a mental health crisis occurs and you are at any risk of physical harm, please go to your local hospital emergency room.  If you are not at risk of physical harm, please reach out to me to let me know.  We may be able to find an earlier appointment time.
